Controversial Nigerian music star, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley will be back in court on October 22nd for the commencement of his fraud trial.
36NAIJA recalls that Naira Marley was arrested on his birthday, March 10th 2019 by EFCC officials on the allegations of advance-fee scam and related internet crimes. After his arrest, the EFCC filed 11 charges against Naira Marley which centered on internet scam and cybercrime.
The alleged crimes contravened the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act and the Cyber Crimes Act. Naira Marley may face 7 years in prison if found guilty of the offense.
The charges with the suit number ‘FHC/L/178C/19’ were filed before a Lagos State High Court.
Ten days after his arrest, Naira Marley was arraigned before a judge identified as Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos state.
However, Naira Marley was granted bail on Thursday, May 30th but he remained in custody for further two weeks because he couldn’t fulfil his bail conditions on time. As at that time, the bail was ‘the sum of N2m, two sureties in like sum.
The judge disclosed one of the sureties must be a civil servant who must own a landed property in Lagos State and must not be below Grade Level 10.
The judge also directed the EFCC to verify the bail terms and he adjourned the case until October 22 for the commencement of the trial.
