Yesterday, Boko Haram insurgents opened fire on the convoy of the executive Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum.
36Naija can confirm that this incident happened around 9 pm. The security sources reported that the terrorists attacked Zulum’s convoy in Konduga while Zulum was coming back from a trip to the Bama Local Government Area.
Zulum had visited Gwoza, Bayo, Kwaya Kusar and Askira Uba as part of his “familiarity and need assessment tour” of the 27 Local Government Areas in Borno state.
The source said,
“Luckily the governor, his commissioners and other vehicles in the convoy escaped unhurt but the last vehicle which is an army gun truck was pelted with bullets.
“Immediately after they fired at us, our men in collaboration with the armed personnel from the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, retaliated and thwarted the ambush.”
Konduga, an area close to Sambisa forest, has come under a series of attacks from the faction of Boko Haram insurgents under the control of the leader, Abubakar Shekau.
The attack comes just 7 months after Kashim Shettima, Zulum’s successor was attacked by the Boko Haram insurgents on his way to Gamboru Ngala, in Borno state.
