Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic has withdrawn from Croatia’s squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Slovakia after picking up an injury at the weekend.
The 25-year-old midfielder has quickly established himself under new Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard in the 2019/2020 Premier League season. He was Chelsea’s only signing as the club is currently serving a transfer ban.
Kovacic has started all but one of Chelsea’s 5 matches in all competitions this season. He was substituted after 84 minutes in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Kovacic inflamed an Achilles tendon in his right leg in the match against Sheffield United on Saturday, with Croatia calling up Mijo Caktas instead.
Although it is hoped that Matteo Kovacic hasn’t suffered anything serious yet, but the injury will not allow him to play any part in Croatia’s matches during the international break.
