Apparently, WWE is trying to put together what could be a dream match between the one and only Undertaker, and Sting.
Sting is 60 years old and he was forced out of the business when he came down with a neck injury. He sustained this during his brief period back with WWE. He has always stated that he would never return to the ring to have a single match but on the flip side, he has expressed regret about not being able to verse the Undertaker. WWE wants to book this match next year for a PPV in Saudi Arabia. They are booking a lot of matches there at the moment as there is a huge demand and on top of that, they are getting paid very well too. This is helping them to book the superstar matches that the crowd are asking for and it also means that wrestlers can have another chance at in-ring success. For stars such as Sting, this is a blessing.
Vince is trying to use the trips to the east to bring big names out of retirement, and so far it looks to be working. Goldberg is the latest star to make a return along with Shawn Michaels who made a comeback at Crown Jewel in 2018 which marked 10 years since he went into retirement. Comebacks like this are huge in betting sports and it has also had a huge impact on the business in general. McMahon and his wrestling chiefs are trying to bring out another blast from the past and they are also trying to make a huge event out of it too. This means big bucks for the stars and the WWE company in general.
Sting has stated that getting cleared to wrestle might be difficult but at the end of the day, he does still have a lot of hope. Sure, when you think about The Undertaker being 54 you may come to the conclusion that the match just isn’t going to work. That being said, this would be huge for the WWE universe and the two men were key players when you look back at WCW and WWE. They are fan favourites even to this day. McMahon bought out WCW in 2001 and Sting refused to sign with WWE because he wanted to show his loyalty to the previous brand. It took years to persuade him to come back and when he finally entered the world of WWE in 2014, he was immediately involved with a storyline that revolved around HHH and The Authority.
The two of them went on to have a huge battle at Wrestlemania and then after, we saw DX and the NWO square-off. The Saudi Arabian Sports Authority are paying the WWE a huge sum of money to host shows in the country. This is going to be done over the next ten years and the idea of a final big payday may appeal to both wrestlers.
