- Tribunal sacks Dino Melaye
- Orders fresh election in Kogi West
The election of Senator Dino Melaye has been nullified by the Kogi State National Assembly/State Assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja.
36naija.com reports that Senator Melaye’s election was nullified by the tribunal on Friday morning, August 23.
The development is coming after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in February, declared Senator Melaye the winner of the Kogi West Senatorial election
According to INEC, Melaye, a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 85,395 votes to defeat Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 66,901 votes.
Displeased with the result, Adeyemi approached the tribunal which in turn, ruled in his favour today.
A three-man panel of justices led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous judgment accepted Adeyemi’s ground and ordered for reelection into the Kogi West senatorial district.
