3 people have been killed and 10 injured in the rioting between fans of two football rival clubs in Tegucigalpa, Honduras according to 36Naija Sports News.
The violence broke out ahead of a football game between the Olimpia and Motagua on Saturday evening.
It riots began when the crowds threw stones at the Motagua team bus, injuring 3 football players in the process. The fighting continued both outside and inside the Honduras National Stadium after the officials cancelled the game.
“Three people died and seven were shot and stabbed. One of them is a boy. Three of the injured adults are in critical condition,” local hospital spokeswoman Laura Schoenherr told Reuters new agency.
More than 10,000 fans were already in the stadium when the violence erupted. Also, many fans were caught in a stampede as the police used tear gas to tackle the rioters.
The Motagua club tweeted photos of the damages inside the bus after the attack, and of the players who were wounded players with shards of broken glasses.
