The Federal High Court in Ikoyi (Lagos) has granted Nigerian music star, Azeez Fashola (known as Naira Marley)a bail of 2,000,000 naira.
The embattled Nigerian singer was granted bail in the sum of 2 million naira and 2 sureties by Justice Nicholas Oweibo on Thursday afternoon.
At the resumed bail application, Naira Marley’s counsel, Mr Olalekan Ojo, apologised for his absence at the first arraignment held on May 20 due to a heavy downpour.
Mr Ojo also urged the law court to accept the bail application of his client based on the presumption of innocence in accordance with Section 162 of the Nigerian constitution which states that;
(1) He also pleaded that a liberal approach is taken in hearing the bail application.
However, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, argued that this is not the temporary release of the Nigerian music star and that what is of utmost importance is the final judgement.
Rotimi Oyedepo also urged the court to grant an accelerated hearing rather than granting bail to the singer.

He made this statement based on the fact that the lawyer of the defendant had said the defendant (Naira Marley) is a celebrity, and as such, his inactions, reactions and have a multiplier effect on the youths across the country.
The trial has been adjourned to a later date and October 22, 23 and 24 has been selected for accelerated hearing of the case.
