The Federal Government says it will shut down the ‘Akanu Ibiam’ International Airport in Enugu state due to the deplorable state of its runway.
36Naija reports that the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika disclosed this at a stakeholders forum on Friday in Lagos state.
Sirika said the airport will be degraded for the purposes of international operations as the runway length is not ideal for such operations.

According to the minister, the market, television masts, and the free trade zone need to be relocated for the airport so that it can be suitable for safe flights.
Hadi Sirika also said the International Airport terminal in Lagos tate would be partially pulled down by Julius Berger Ltd for a major facelift which will cost N14 billion. According to him, this will happen after the inauguration of the new terminal.
